SINGAPORE – Today I’m going with my friend Ray and @Zermatt Neo to go eat Malay and Indonesian food at Hjh Maimunah Restaurant – one of the biggest and most famous Malay restaurants in Singapore. Zermatt happens to be a competitive eater and the biggest eater in all of Singapore, so we decided to order one of everything – and that happened to be 51 dishes.
You arrive at Hjh Maimunah Restaurant and you’ll immediately see a line outside waiting to order and waiting to get in. It works cafeteria style where you get in line, see what you like at the front, grab and pay for your food, and then find a seat. I got in line and when I reached the front, I ordered one of everything – which again was 51 dishes. It was a little confusing and tricky to get all the dishes, but eventually we had everything on the table and were ready to eat.
The food was delicious, I love Malay food and Indonesian food. I especially enjoyed the rendang, the snails which were boiled in coconut milk and herbs, and all the different vegetable dishes.

Does Mark realise how insensitive it is to post such a video at this time when prices for Singapore food have shot through the roof and many elderly and families in Singapore are suffering from self imposed starvation ( to pay for the endless taxes and government levies) and malnutrition that is even worse than in Thailand. Nowhere can you even buy a decent snack here for 10-15 Baht. Please.

For the older generation Malay food is nice to eat, we lived in kampung and mixed with all races, just like play together and learn and exchange of speaking our local dialect. WOW to day you eat with Zermatt great eater.
I think the dark coloured dish is not cooked with squid ink. It is not Malay culture to use squid ink. I think it is Buah Keluak which is a kind of nut with a black mushy inside. Malays, especially those in Singapore and Malacca, like to cook chicken with Buah Keluak. The dish is usually with black gravy and makes the meat black too.

Mark next time you do this just do more research on the menu and stage it out while you’re there that way you can enjoy it all hot and fresh!
