I thought it was clear, I mean when you're stuck in a place for an unknown time (which it was frozen time in their case) and the place is like a never ending loop it will really freak you out and the eternity devil grow in power I think from ppl fear like it was said. 13. The Devil is the Eternity Devil, it exists and is strengthened by the fear of eternity – which is the fear of being stuck or having something go on forever. Fear of being stuck in purgatory would be an example, a more realistic example would be being stranded in a broken down elevator, fearing you will be stuck there forever and die.

    One of the reasons this devil is not stronger is that you actually have to be able to conceptualize scarcity and think ahead in order to fear the devil, and people could either be too dumb, too distracted, or too crazy to even acknowledge the possibilities, let alone be scared by them.

16. You need to keep in mind that all demon's feed on fear. Last episode it was said that after the Gundevil incident demon's got a lot stronger because people started to fear them and the government started to hide stuff like that from the public to prevent fear.

    This is probably also why power enjoyed the other girl crying so much.

This is a reference to eternity (the state of being everlasting, i.e infinite), the embodiment of the Eternity Devil.

30. Its interesting as this is the first devil we have seen that's a concept and not a thing. All the other Devils we have seen are objects or entity's, physical or fictitious things. This ones purely based on the conceptual fear of Eternity/Infinity. Makes me wonder what something like a Heights Devil would look like.

34. I never thought of this about the eternity devil when I read the manga but you guys made me realise it lol

    People don't inherently fear eternity the same way that they fear bats or guns etc. Hence why the devil was so small and was just a head in the prev episode

    But in this episode, because they were getting scared of being stuck there FOREVER, it got more and more bigger and powerful

35. I think the anime isn't explaining enough setting because it has to cut off some parts of dialogue.
    There is a part of exposition that devils are born out of fear of certain "words" or concepts. But what will happen if a devil ate another devil, like a plant devil eat a broccoli devil? So technically, infinity devil might has parts of some adjacent ideas.
    And another point that this episode confirmed is that, devils feed on fear. Of course human fear will do, but in the first episode, the zombie devil got scared of Denji, so what would happen if devils are scared of some other devils?

39. This episode does a good job showing that Denji's naive, not an idiot. He may not be the smartest, he may be easily manipulated at times, but he's really good at fighting dirty and has the sheer willpower to stare down a literal infinite maw and see an opportunity rather than a challenge.

    Also, notice that line Aki said early on which implies he doesn't think of Denji as a devil anymore, but as a human? That's a huge step for him.
