I lived in Honolulu from 2005 to 2012. I went to Maui every week because of my job. Lahaina, McKenna, Mama’s Fish House etc. To see THIS!!! Just hurts, just hurts!!

Even as we all can see with our own eyes the weather changing DRASTICALLY in the last decade. We were told in 2020 we had 10 years to lower emissions. Now we have less than a year. By the end of 2024, they project we will have hit our tipping point. More of these scenes will become common and widespread. Get ready world. Our political elites refuse to do anything because they are afraid of losing their funding from these big oil and gas companies. And that’s why they still say it’s not real. As if we don’t see right through that shit now.

How incredibly sad. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I lived there for 3 years back in the 80's, and seeing it like this just breaks my heart. I'm so grateful for the mutual aid fire response we have on the mainland they don't have on Maui. I'm sure when she's rebuilt, and she will be grand, the residence and businesses will gladly pay for the fire systems needed to prevent this from ever happening again. There's an endless amount of firefighting water so close. Pumps and sprinklers folks, lots of pumps and sprinklers with generators to run them.

Hawaii is woefully underprepared for any disasters of this type. Local government is incompetent, no emergency shelters or planning, housing where there shouldn't be and homeless everywhere, emergency services limited, tons of structures not up to code, no back supplies or water, no anything really. I've seen this time and time again. During nuclear bomb scare and I'm not kidding, the Gov lost his twitter password and couldn't update the populace that it was a mistake. Also, during tsunami scare in Waikiki, all first responders left the area 30 minutes before tsunami was to hit. So even with advanced notice, the elderly and disabled had no way to escape. You'd think there would be shelters on higher ground, but there isn't and not enough first responders to help everyone out of condos even if there was. Everyone's a sitting duck, except richest guy on Oahu has private jet and plans to fly out if the shtf, but also has private food storage and can hunker down too. People don't realize how vulnerable they are until too late.

Exactly old lady driving around like she’s out shopping…WTF. Then passes a dude that looks burned up in the smoke and doesn’t even check or ask him if he needs a ride out. Clueless. And zero firemen or trucks. It’s like they were sleeping in? So sad, just like our CA wildfires. They show no mercy.
In 2016, we went through it here in the Smokies, Gatlinburg wildfire. Took out over 2500 structures, ended 14 lives including children. It was so avoidable but sadly, it went unchecked for days. Then, we got 87 mph steady winds at night. The sky was such an ugly shade of orange. You never forget the smell, the loss of electricity at midnight but the glow getting brighter, gathering your pets and children wondering how to find a safe way out.
My heart hurts for everyone on that island and their loved ones. ❤
