Seal Bundled Up In Fishing Line

Seal Bundled Up In Fishing Line
Spread The Viralist

Some rescue videos give the impression that our seals understand what we are doing and that we are trying to help them. They even line up nicely as they run towards the water, almost as if they want to give our rescue team the chance to scan each individual for potential entanglements. However, rescues are never routineβ€”we never know what we will encounter next. In this case, we found a seal with a relatively recent fishing line entanglement, making it ideal for a quick and easy catch and release rescue. In other situations, we encounter deep wounds and severe entanglements that require us to inflict pain on the animal before it can feel better. For 99% of our seals, a rescue will be their only interaction with us, leaving them stressed and unpredictable.

  7. Tony, thank you for always being aware of the seals' physical comfort and firm but gentle handling during a rescue. I certainly notice it, and I am sure that reduces stress and injury to the animals.

  8. I think if humans quit consuming ocean fish today, this would still be a problem for a very, very, very long time. There is just so much discarded fishing line out there. Sad. Thank you for saving the seals. πŸ‘
