  1. I just realized something!

That the surviving houses that made it through the unstoppable and ruthless fire are not just targets to hoodlums and looters; they are also targets to urban animals.

What I mean to say, that without any humans (with the exception of few patrol cops and firefighters) in these massive and destroyed neighborhoods, the animals that had hidden underground, the sewers, fled to the hills and even the few (VERY few) houses that survived the inferno, will emerge or come down.

Black Bears, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, Foxes, Rats, Raccoons, Opossums, Squirrels, Chipmunks, and Bobcats will look for any opportunities and small openings of the few dozen surviving yet empty houses (partly open or broken windows, unlocked pet doors and partly left open doors) and intrude into these homes to do whatever they wish.

Especially if they’re looking for food and will head to the kitchens to cause lots of messes to eat what they can find.

While outside, are hundreds of abandoned trash cans that had not been dumped in the garbage truck are left on the curbs of the streets. The bears will topple over them to get what they can find and devour; they along with coyotes, raccoons will use their claws and sharp teeth to tear apart the bags to allow access for whatever’s edible inside.

The birds, Crows and seagulls, can rip open garbage bags; using their beaks to peck at weak points in the bag, creating an opening to access the food inside.

After them and if there’s still some food left, are for the smaller critters to feed on after the bigger ones have left.

While the Black Bears, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, Foxes and Bobcats seek and hunt for lost and missing pets that had survived the fires, but are either injured (from the burns), scared, disoriented, hungry, weaken and not be rescued and recovered by humans.

After all, there just as a thousand domesticated animals that had never experienced anything like this! And there are still a few hundred or half a thousand more that are still lost and aimless in these destroyed neighborhoods.

No doubt that mother Mountain Lion and her cubs will have the courage and hunger to make their way though the burned ruins the humans used to be to find any unfortunate creatures that are defenseless and lost to eat for their own survival.

  2. These cougars are in more danger of being shot that dying of thirst. They will find water. I worry more about them wandering into a residential area and being killed… or the mother tragically harming a human. This is sad. I hope it ends well for mom and babies.

  3. After our evacuation in Tahoe the animals were around more foraging . Everything they were used to in the forest is gone. Secure your pets & small children. ❤🎉🎉
