Work feels like it's been getting even more stressful for everyone recently, so we thought we'd take a look back at some of our deep dives into what's really making work so miserable for so many of us… Thanks so much for watching!
Up next, check out our recent video unpacking another dark side of life: stories about when romcom fantasies become total horror stories: https://youtu.be/XiJBMBLcEQM
You had me until you quoted a Communist and did not also quote a Capitalist. You should be angry with crony capitalism not capitalism. Communism has and will forever be the road to ruin.
It seems like pretty much everyone is miserable at their job
SEEMS LIKE? can't even call that an understatement, its deeper than the abyss statement
Watching because I hate my job.
I’m 58. And I’m so glad that the younger generations are waking up to this and not having it. I’ve had too many jobs and dealt with soooooo much bs. It’s always seemed so odd to me that you have to subvert who you are in most jobs and just be a dispensable cog in their wheel.
I love how good parks and rec represents the optimism of actually trying and succeeding with those we care for.
I wish I came to earth as a male cicada (a bug)😁 – bc its better to give then to receive if you know what i mean – 😁 and looks aren't everything. A cicada has a sweet life you know perhaps better then most humans if they make it to full term without getting eaten stepped on or murdered 😂. Lets look at it 👀. Human beings lives are made just toooooo damn complicated and confusing 😞😒😐🤐😩😮.
As a cicada when born all I would have to do is eat and sleep for 17yrs (something everybody love to do) come to the earths surface to get on everybody's nerves😂😂😁or bug ppl😂fly around (cool) find a mate or the love of my life😍😁😂 give her the world 😂😂and a big diamond ring😂😂make sweet love😁or do the nasty😂then die. Short and sweeeet! A bug life 😁.
But what really makes the life of a cicada sweet as a species of bugs is that I wouldn't need a 9to5 or 11to7😂😂 or a job I hate going to or doing (one lady said she actually throws up🤕🤒 when she gets to work) pay taxes😂 penalties😩 late fees👅fines dues🤔 interest 😂😂or rent😂or a mortgage or worry about homelessness😂or living in my car😂need clothes or shoes😁voting😂go to school or church🤗 learn anything😉read books esp self help books😂😂or find myself and purpose😂😂😂inflation😂😂or the cost of eggs and gas😂😂😂 being scammed😂blackmailed😂the baby mama drama😂😂😂😂cheating😂or divorce court😂alimony😂child support payments😂😂😂a prenupt😂😂CPS coming knocking on my door😂😂foster care🤒 being adopted😂do jail time😂😂overpopulation😂climate change😂taking antidepressants😂see a therapists or psychiatrist😂work out or go to the gym😂watch my figure😂go to AA😂 get tatted 😂or piercings all over my face😂go to the beauty salon to get my toes and nails done 😂wear wigs😂 fight and kill over money😂😂 and other things that humans are subjected to do like getting hormonal therapy🤔a bbl😂😂😂botox😂😂and fillers😂and most important watch videos on YouTube of ppl ranting about how ppl and life sucks.😂😂😂. As a cicada I'll just be living my best life 😂😂being dirt poor or broke😂😂. God bless the cicadas 😁.
You know I never thought that I could actually be jealous of a bug or envy it😂😂. From now on im not killing no more bugs😂😂😂. The only thing that I probably grapple about being a cicada is doing the nasty backwards😂and only once in my lifetime😂😂. Other than that cicadas be getting it in😁and going raw or dont have to strap up or use a condom😂😂 or worry if they're the babies daddy.😂
If not a cicada. A house fly😂😂which would probably fit me better bc flies do the nasty doggy style my favorite position😂😂and like sh..t💩and im full of it😂😂😂.
Peace ✌out and in everyone and I hope you all have a good day or night wherever you are in the Babylonian world.
Wow, so lazy they got an ai to narrate this.
The world is miserable whether or not one has a job, and regardless of one's position under capitalism. Squid Game gets it right – it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. The reason it's easy to move between "workaholism" and "the great resignation" is because they are two sides of the same coin. There's no solution that exists in achieving some sort of advanced consciousness to wisely navigate reality – the solution is to improve reality to the point whether people are happy regardless of their job status – Communism.
Wage labor IS Slave labor. Hard stop.
The dude doesn’t “Take it Easy.” That’s an Eagles song, man.
The thing is I like doing things I can't stand not working on something but what i hate is working on things for other people with no say in how it's designed and built and having to follow tons of rules that I don't agree with either because they don't fit my organizational preferences or because they seem to make it more stressful to use.
I remember the first time I watched "The devil wears Prada" when the movie was over I wanted to vomit. Is that suppose to be work life? I started to miss high school and colleage.
I get it , but do you know HOW MANY people I know here in a 3rd world country, that would LOVE an office jobe like these??? You actually get to sit down , in a nice A/C building?? That is a dream for a lot of people here.
Keynes wrote a two page that productivity would be so great w tech, leisure hours would be up and work would be 25 hours/week. Little did he know that it was always like that, but owners of production usurped all the capital and subject us to illusion of scarcity. The two page letter is from 1925
The Great Resignation didn't really happen. It was a questionable statistical spike at best
There are no comparisons of office work to industrial work. You could not make a sitcom about working in a grimy factory where people are not making enough to live on, the environment is life threatening and predictably physically debilitating and where workers are subjected to open hostility and contempt by management (office workers).
Because there is no culture of any reward for working a job once you go home. Our culture has been destroyed.
Should a job align with your values? Anyone else struggle working fast food when you try to prioritize your health? What about loving yourself while working those toxic jobs? We have to put our families first always. I don't thing the world will ever align for everyone but it's in our best interest to find our way out of these unhappy scenarios we find ourselves in.
To anyone watching this, what took you so long? If you want change the way you do this striking and organizing, if people refuse to work than eventually they'll have to cave or the company shuts down, that's why europe is so good.
Micromanagement.
Why can't we have some series that dare to imagine new types of meaningful work rather than stuck in the current dystopia?
It's interesting – I don't know where this would fit, but there does seem to be a distinction (both on TV and in lived experience) between work that is inherently, obviously directly beneficial when done well, and work that only benefits corporate's bottom line.
All medical dramas (and comedies!) are workplace shows, as are shows set in schools (Abbott Elementary, The English Teacher), space agencies like NASA (Away, For All Mankind), funeral homes, the FBI (too many to name). Some of these workplace settings are so popular they've essentially become their own genre.
Yet, they don't feel like they're about "the workplace," because they're about people doing work that's good and valuable in a human sense, rather than a purely market sense.
Likewise, there are plenty of shows about artists, or people trying to make a living out of some passion that also serves society–rescuing dogs, or creating funerals to help people process their grief.
Does anyone else notice how like grapes of wrath the corporate person or the boss tells you if you dont want it someone else will take it. Or how youll be written up as insubordinate if you dont. Then you work for crap that doesnt feed you or your family or is wrong, but you cant say no because you need money.
“Capitalist markets subsume”. LOL. Nice try Marxist.
People laughed when I toiled to become a hard to replace cog.
As everyone retires around me, it has become even more so. It's $//€€t to see the naysayers out of their oh so prestigeous job. Smells like old socks down there, eh? Care to laugh now?
All we have to do for this to change is stop enabling it.
Which is true of literally everything in the world.
Would you like to spend a day with your child? Time to grovel, cap in hand, to your overlord
If I don’t see a Better off Ted comparison I’m turning the video off after watching the entire thing. Just so you know.
Ivw only seen season 1 if youre reading this when 2 is out: Tbh my theory is the numbers and jobs they do mean nothing the real "job" is seeing how severance effects different types of people and our girl is the last type of person they want to get: the type who has every reason to not bother severing bc she has no home issues that would otherwise make it an easier choice. She is meant to be ANYONE finding out their own job has been doing this to them the whole time in theory shes a top member in practice shes never near important choices after shes severed
The saddest thing in the world is getting replaced by technology, not being able to live a comfortable life, and still be called lazy.
We hate the so-sad-it's-funny-then-sad-again work/life and wages/cost of living imbalance. People, in the USA and elsewhere, literally don't have time to rest let alone make friends or meet partners. Yet upper-classers complain about the declining birthrates (aka less future tax-payers and consumers). The 1% running our gov via bribes will be outright pairing us off and mandating we breed to their satisfaction so there will always be a servant-class population any day now.
Strongly disagree about the homework as unpaid labor comment. People should be (ideally) taught how to learn, including how to learn in their free time. Education is a great weapon, it can equip us to fight for ourselves, form our own opinions, be critical thinkers. This is not work, nor is it mindless. This is one thing more people could be doing ASIDE from work.
I wish I could retire and I’m not even 30 😅😅
Can we talk about chandler bing tells his boss to shred the pile of documents and say never received them? And for 10 seasons nobody including him knows what he does?😂
You think you're barely getting it? Read Endgame: the Problem with Civilization
On the subject of the Devil Wears Prada, I find 2 things interesting: 1) After Miranda terrorizes Andy, calling her repeatedly while she's with her father, to get a flight booked during the middle of a major storm, she berates Andy, and then Nigel tells her she's lucky to have the job. The message: you should accept and be grateful for your boss making you miserable with impossible asks. 2) In the years since this movie came out, I've seen talk online of how Miranda is somehow the hero of the story. How? HOW?
Honestly being a slacker or sabatouer is the only way to survive the system without mentally breaking down. I've seen the rebels and they are often so overwhlemed and upset, that even their discontent and expression of whats wrong doesnt do anything and that just mentally wears them down even more. And its the same with almost all companies, no matter how much they spout about caring about employees. I dont care if some CEO gets profit because at the end of the day, i dont get much anyway. Last wage increase was 1.5%. it wasnt even enough so I jsut stopped caring. But I can also admit thats a luxury. I usually work what i need to and dont care about their bs promises about promotion and bonuses and honestly dont care or buy into the purpose of the job. I enjoy my days in the office by doing little things i like, drown out any corporate talk and not conforming to portraying myself as anything genius or smart or hardworker. But I can do that because I'm a single woman with no family or kids to take care of. Never give any company your loyalty. The only loyalty you should have is for yourself and your family.
If I comment, will it be deleted again?
Working is not the problem, the work culture is, erasing a sense of self, blurring the red lines you don't want to cross, and not being able to build something for yourself, something of your own, something that makes you feel proud and happy
I'm a millennial on the cusp of 40. I grew up in Philly and have been working since I was 14. In my 20's I lived in LA for 6 years and NYC for 10 years through my 30s. On average, I've had a minimum of 2.5 jobs my entire adult life.
I feel so seen by this video. 🥲🙃
Hang on they will learn to use AI to optimize performance of their workers.
"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." – Mark Vonnegut
As soon as I quit my job, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on medication to sedate me. That's the price of rebellion. They won't let you actually be a free person in charge of how to use your energy. You're either in daycare, as you said, or on meds. Don't worry, though, I'll keep taking my meds.
David Graeber’s book BS Jobs changed how I see the world
@thetake , how does the worker of the take reading this (you) feel about this video lol
