He was maybe referring to Nuh(A.S.) or Lut(A.S.) storyline. However this happened to the diverted people who had been directly taught and admonish by the messengers of Allah (SWT), but they refused to accept the message and mocked them. So Allah (SWT) wanted to completely eliminate these people, because they would spread corruption in the world, in the same way as to cure a disease one kills a virus colony in the body to prevent it from spreading further and causing greater damage.
I think he's referring to the story of Lut a.s.
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever has wronged his brother, should ask for his pardon (before his death), as (in the Hereafter) there will be neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. (He should secure pardon in this life) before some of his good deeds are taken and paid to his brother, or, if he has done no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of his brother are taken to be loaded on him (in the Hereafter).
